Honoring Our Ancestors

History for Kids Field Trip Opportunity

Allison Woods Living History & Reenactment

September 19th, 2008

  • There is no charge for students and educators to attend on this day. School Day is not open to the general public.

We are pleased to offer school tours on Friday, September 19th, 2008 at the Allison Woods Living History & Reenactment event. All public, private, and home school classes are urged to attend. The event is suitable for all age groups.

  • This year we will be offering in addition to our normal Civil War exhibits and demonstrations – demonstrations for all major wars held in the United States such as the Revolutionary War and World War II. Students and educators alike will not want to miss out on this fun filled day.

This field trip has been very well received and has been attended in the past by an excess of 500 children. Some schools from as far away as 100 miles came to enjoy this opportunity.

The children will be able to explore campsites, sutler campsites. Some of the other programs will include how to fire a cannon; the role of women during the war, period clothing, cavalry and its role, crafts, woodworking, blacksmithing and the role of infantry. Authentic uniforms and equipment will be on display. These exhibits will be placed at numbered stations and classes will rotate at their own pace.

Last year, four hours was allotted for most classes. The site opens at 9:00 am and remains open until 2:00pm. Period food, hamburgers, hotdogs, and drinks will be available for purchase, or students can bring their own lunch. Souvenir items will be available as well.

We encourage students to interact with participants. Cameras are welcome. Comfortable clothing and covered walking shoes are recommended.
